The Worst of Us

By Anonymous - Posted on 28 November 2008

Dear President Bush,

I spent over half of your presidency living abroad. Playing the role of The American as I went through high school, college and then into the work force was a unique experience. See, a lot of people don’t like us: our greed and selfishness, our sense of 'exceptionalism', our ignorance and especially our president. Because I was The American, I have always been pressed to defend my country, which was easy, as well as your decisions and your personal shortcomings. This particular task only got harder as the years went by.

I’m of the generation that came of age during your first administration, cast their first ever presidential votes for John Kerry and then spent the next four years watching the wars continue, corruption and cronyism flourish and our disillusionment grow. My opinion of you did, however, benefit from living in countries with governments even less functional than ours. I know what systemic corruption, total censorship and an unelected leadership can do to a country. Yes, you were a terrible president, but at least we are allowed to get rid of you.

Under your administration our country has become militarily entangled with both Afghanistan and Iraq, wars that have lasted longer and cost more than anyone expected. Our economy has been devastated as oil prices shoot up (your friends all seem to be doing pretty well though, huh?). Our environment continues to suffer as you deny, with a straight face no less, the existence of global warming. You have violated human rights in Guantanamo, made enemies in the UN, cut funding from the under-performing schools that need it most, spied on your own citizens under the Patriot Act… At the very best you are a failure, at worst a criminal.

Your legacy will forever stand not only as an example of just how badly our government can fail but, more happily, how capable Americans are of learning from mistakes and how well our system of government allows for corrections. We are truly lucky to live in a country that the people are free to change, and never has this felt truer than as we near the end of your final term. The people have voted and there now seems to be light at the end of this tunnel.

Americans are not innately selfish, ignorant or self-exempting and I believe that in time a new model of The American will be presented to the world. I believe that this new identity can be formed when Americans are no longer led by a selfish, ignorant and self-exempting president. You were the worst of us, President Bush, and I am not at all sorry to see you go. More than anything, I look forward to this January when you will no longer be representing me or my country.

Good Bye Mr President, you will be missed. Your hardwork and steadfast resolve often go unappreciated, but thank you for protecting us. Thank you for making the terrorist thugs and assassins pay for their crimes, and removing the monster that was Saddam Hussein.

God sped,

A Maryland Republican

What terrorist thugs and assassins are you talking about? Who did he protect us from? If you're referencing Operation Iraqi Freedom, you are a nitwit.

Has your Presidency been perfect?

Have you made all the right decisions, at the correct time and in a timely manner?

No, you haven't.

The again, you weren't supposed to.

You sir, are human and a man of honor and integrity.

That is more than can be said for some of your detractors, on these pages and elsewhere.

God bless you and yours and history will bear witness to the wisdom of your choices.

Dear Fool,

What wisdom, honor or integrity are you talking about? The GWB that I watched wreck our country for the last 8 years was, and is, a dishonest, slimy worm of a man who has been blindly led through situation after situation. He lied about Operation: Iraqi Freedom from the get go. He said we were looking for WMD's, but instead we went in and killed Saddam. Hussein was a bad man in my opinion, but his assassination was not what was presented to the American people as the reason for O:IF. We never found WMD's and Bush made those poor men and women stay there to kill and be killed. Under what pretense is that ok or wise? How does that show integrity? You are a fool in my eyes and I hope you start paying attention to the actions of your leaders a little closer.

I'm going to assume that your entire entry is a joke. There's no possible way someone could post something so incredibly ignorant and be serious at the same time.

Wow, after reading this I understand what happened to our country. God forbid someone has their own point of view on how Bush did as president. People can't accept others views, and that is why the US is crumbling. The two sides can't get along. We are all fed our knowledge from the TV and from the internet, and based on that they fill the right to act like experts on what Bush has done as president. Realize there are two sides to every argument. Want all your freedoms with no questions asked? Ok have them, but know that terrorists thrive in situations like that. I am thankful that there was no attack on US soil since the events of 9/11. Bush to thank for that? yeah....basically. With his, apparently, "horrible" Patriot Act. Yeah, God forbid, a president trying to keep his country safe from the inside. You are all sheep, following each other and each other's ideas. We the people are to blame for this country's turn for the worse. What ever happened to "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country"?

Bush did not have a very successful presidency... I agree. But some of the malicious attitudes attacking peoples opinions is a damn shame. And for the Democratic minds in her doing their bashing.... you must forget that the president is basically a puppet to the senate....a democratically controlled senate at that.

And for thought, how many presidents in history have had to deal with as much shit as Bush had to?
9/11
Hurricane Katrina
Afghanistan/Iraq
Russia flexing its muscles
Multiple recessions
North Korea
Iran

....not too many if ya ask me. And considering that, I think America is really not that bad off.

Please respond to this as I feel like I have presented some very good points. And would like to "listen to" and not attack your responses.

Wow...I can't believe you actually had the audacity to write down those thoughts and call US the sheep, but let's see if I can show you the other side...

First of all---why don't we dispense with this entire notion of opinions---like ass-----, everyone has one--- that doesn't necessarily mean they are THE TRUTH. The truth isn't an issue---either it's the truth or it's a lie. You can't have two opposing truths of the same issue. It's what has kept us divided as a country. You are not facing some basic, fundamental truths.

First of all, this has been the worst this country has been divided under duress and threat since the McCarthy era---think not? Every time we turned around we were told if you aren't with us, you're against us and you must love those terrorists. Just because we wanted our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS left alone. Never has the Constitution taking such a raping. YES, a raping. Cheney admitted that they were going to war with or without WMD, you, Sir, were played for a fool.

The TRUTH of the matter is that taking away the citizen's Constitutional rights does not make people safer. Spying on me is NOT making you safer. Skirting around the laws that protect the citizens is NOT making you safer. It's making this country a totalitarian dictatorship, or on it's way to becoming one.

I can't even begin to think of the last time that the US had torture as POLICY. I don't care what someone has done, if we can't stand heads above the rest of the world, we have no business even pretending to decide anything for them or even interacting with them. The TRUTH IS that torturing people does not get THE TRUTH. It gets people saying anything they think you want to hear, but it doesn't get the truth.

AND SINCE WHEN did the Iraq war do anything to thwart terrorism? Bush didn't keep us safe, raping the Constitution didn't keep us safe. IRAQ HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9-11. I know you Republicans have a hard time understanding this, so let me repeat it---IRAQ HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9-11! The Iraqi people never were a threat to anything we hold dear, except maybe the land the oil was on that DID NOT BELONG TO US. We illegally invaded a sovereign country and murdered it's legal ruler. I am so mortified about that. Not to mention that there are already 98,418 CIVILIANS dead from the invasion. Almost 100,000 INNOCENT people dead for what? And yes, maybe sectarian violence has gone a long way toward that body count, but if you knew diddly squat about the area, you would know that Saddam might have been a lot of things, but what he did do was keep peace in that area.

Do you remember the first thing they did when they ILLEGALLY invaded Iraq?? They went and secured the oil fields. Nothing else---not the people, not the irreplaceable museum artifacts from the beginning of man's history---the oil fields. And so why do you think oil has gotten out of control? Maybe because the greedy Bushites and their Saudi cronies have their hand on the controls?

Don't even hand me that garbage how Bush was a puppet to the Senate. He was a puppet alright--to Cheney and the neo-cons controlling profiting from the war. Do some actual research, do some reading---go see exactly what Bush's buddies over at Halliburton (*Cheney's place) have made off the war. You sir, are misinformed. Go watch "Iraq for Sale" There you will learn some undeniable TRUTHS.

As far as Katrina---maybe if we had been spending money on the infrastructure of the country rather than an illegal war, they would have heeded the numerous reports on how the levee wasn't going to hold up and done something about it rather than sending PALLETS of cash over to Iraq. And after it did happen, maybe if they had mobilized within hours instead of weeks, there wouldn't be all the criticism in that area too, ya think??

And speaking of 9-11---why haven't they gotten the boogey-man Bin Laden? This is a man on dialysis that has been within reach quite a few times---that was before his reputed death. There's a good chance he's not even alive any more. (Not even mentioning that Bush and the Bin Laden family are as thick as thieves)

http://in.truveo.com/Benazir-Bhutto-On-the-death-of-Osama-Bin-Laden/id/6...

But since you get your propaganda from the TV, you probably haven't heard that...that interview most likely contributed to her death. I wouldn't dismiss it as easily as I already know you have.

Since the neocons were the ones to get us into Iraq for no other reason to make themselves rich, then you can't really make a case on how it's been trying for poor Bushie Jr. He's managed to completely bankrupt this country, but he did it to Texas too---he has failed at every solitary single business he tried his hand at. Why don't we run down some of his notable firsts??

First president in U.S. history to enter office with a criminal record.

First president in U.S. history to order a U.S. attack and military occupation of a sovereign nation

First president in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the human rights commission

First president in U.S. history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 U.S. elections)

First president to run and hide when the U.S. came under attack (and then lied saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1)

First U.S. president to establish a secret shadow government

First U.S. president in history to have the people of South Korea more threatened by the U.S. than their immediate neighbor, North Korea.

First president in U.S. history to have all 50 states of the Union simultaneously go bankrupt.

First president to have shoes thrown at him...

There you go...you can be proud of that.

"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda" George W. Bush, May 24, 2005.

Afghanistan has turned into a quagmire because he has been fighting on too many fronts. He should have learned his history better instead of drinking, partying and snorting all that cocaine.

And that is all I think I am going to say about that...

C-YA!

must be a hippie chick from Brown University

I agree 100%

You are living proof that you can fool some of the people all of the time. The Bush administartion has caused more damage to this country and the planet in general than can be fixed by even two Obama administrations. It is a miracle we have survived. As for being safe since 9/11 it has NOTHING to do with any efforts of the government. They just haven't tried any terrorism. 9/11 was a fluke.
It never ceases to amaze me there are still Bush supporters. But being knowledgable of history I know that Hitler had his few right up til the last day in the bunker.

Obama? Why even bring him up? You have no idea whether he will fix anything.

I am so disgusted with the lack of respect that Bush and all his friends have for our people here domestically. It is as though they are only interested in a global citizen now. They took our tax money and now they run-unbelievable.Must be nice having 500 million dollars to donate to ur local university.SAD*
